Golden Oat Belgian Waffles

How to make fresh, fluffy, and delicious belgian waffles with a healthy twist!

Who doesn't love a GOOD Belgian waffle? I can remember many vacation breakfasts where the hotel kitchen featured these fluffy fan favorites. On one southwest vacation, they were even the shape of Texas for added fun! Here I will show you how easy it is to make fresh Belgian waffles because--believe it or not--there is a taste difference between using a mix and doing this from scratch. They taste better, AND you can control how much sodium is in the waffles (because unfortunately frozen ones or the ones from a store mix usually have

a lot!).

Additionally, adding oats gives the waffles a whole grain boost without disturbing its smooth, fluffy awesomeness. I fell in love with this recipe. Let me know if you do too!

Golden Oat Waffle Ingredients

  • 2 cups white flour

  • 2 tbsp baking powder

  • 2 1/2 tbsp sugar

  • 1/2 cup oats

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 2 cups milk (I prefer vanilla oatmilk for added flavor)

  • 2 tbsp canola oil

  • 1 1/2 tbsp ground ginger

  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon

  • 1 egg (yes, you only need one!)

Step 1: Combine Dry Ingredients

Using a silicon or wire whisk, mix the flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, oats, ginger, and cinnamon. Mix well.

Step 2: Add Wet Ingredients to Dry Ingredients

Add milk, oil, and egg to batter. Whisk until well-combined. Batter should be smooth and easy to mix (add a little more milk if needed).

Step 3: Cook Waffles

Plug in Belgian waffle iron and set toasting setting to medium-low. When waffle iron is preheated, spray all sides with nonstick cooking spray. Spoon batter into waffle iron so that it covers the whole bottom surface (but do not overfill). Cook until "done" light comes on. Repeat the process.

Step 4: Dig In and Enjoy!

Serve immediately with fresh maple syrup, almond butter, and fresh strawberries, if desired. Enjoy!

Congratulations, Cook!
